Community Service Award for 2016
SEF is an all-volunteer organization that raises money to fund grants which put resources and programs directly into the classroom. Shrewsbury Public School teachers write grant applications seeking funding for unique learning experiences and resources that will directly benefit students.
SEF will also celebrate the recipients of the John P. Collins Awards for Excellence. This award honors the exemplary efforts of those whose work brings to life the mission of the Shrewsbury Public Schools: to provide students with the skills and knowledge for the 21st century, an appreciation of our democratic tradition and the desire to continue to learn throughout life. The award is named for former Superintendent, John P. Collins, PhD, who served for 16 years in Shrewsbury (1978-1994) and continues to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism and a commitment to lifelong learning. The Community Service Award is granted to a town leader who, goes above and beyond in delivering outstanding services to the community and to the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Beth Casavant is an active community and school volunteer. She served as the Co-President of the Parker Road Preschool for 2 years, the President of the Spring Street School PTO for 4 years and is currently the PTO President for Oak Middle School. Beth was a founding member of the Shrewsbury Advocates, has been an elected Town Meeting Member for 6 years and serves as a Trustee of the Shrewsbury Public Library. Beth has been involved in a number of town-wide initiatives, including the Community Supporters for Sherwood, the campaign to renovate and expand the Shrewsbury Public Library and the recent Proposition 2 ½ ballot to raise additional funding for our town. Beth is also a member of the Shrewsbury Schools Foundation which raised funds for our schools at its annual Garden Party fundraiser. Finally, for the past three years Beth has been on the host committee for a local charity golf event that raises funds for Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, St. Anne’s Human Services and the Westborough Food Pantry. SEF is grateful to Beth’s dedication to our community and the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Comments are closed.
