The Shrewsbury Education Foundation (SEF) works to stimulate, strengthen and support the creation and implementation of innovative educational programs and enrichment activities that benefit students of the Shrewsbury Public Schools.
Through its all-volunteer effort supported by charitable contributions, SEF fills a vital gap for Shrewsbury students. SEF grants allow dedicated educators create new learning vehicles that cannot be supported as financial resources have tightened. SEF grants encourage creative approaches to educating the whole child--further meeting their intellectual, psychosocial and health needs. Shrewsbury Education Foundation receives grant requests from educators within the Shrewsbury Public Schools district for materials allowing them to go beyond the basic necessities of teaching and improving the education process for their students. Shrewsbury schools practice integrative classrooms in which students with special needs and students learning English, share the same classroom along with the typical learners. This mix of students, the continued decrease of budget funding and the increasing class sizes mean the educators strive to reach all students in an equal capacity and are eagerly utilizing new technology or other materials to engage and educate all members of their classrooms. Every year we get grant requests from the 9 schools in Shrewsbury for programs to assist students who come from low income homes or to help students learn about different cultures and to embrace them in their communities. Also every year we get at least one request asking for assistance in acquiring new technology to give Shrewsbury student and edge when applying for colleges or jobs. Those areas have been a constant and consistent request from the educators. Another constant grant request is for some type of technology specificallly items that will allow the students to learn at their own pace or to greatly improve their ability to reach all students at the same time. The goal of Shrewsbury Education Foundation is to fill a vital gap for Shrewsbury students and allow dedicated educators to create new learning vehicles that cannot be supported as financial resources have tightened. SEF grants encourage creative approaches to educating the whole child; meeting their intellectual, psychosocial, physical and health needs. Our goals support the general goals of the Shrewsbury Public Schools by preparing all students for the 21st century for college and the job market and to become solid citizens through character building programs and be able to make healthy and safe life choices. The Shrewsbury schools goal is integrative classrooms with special needs and English language students, share the classroom with typical learners. This mix of students, the continued decrease of budget funding and the increasing class sizes mean the educators strive to reach students equally and are eagerly utilizing new technology or other materials to engage and educate their classes. The objective of SEF is to reward exceptional educators by providing materials to those educators who want to do more by going beyond and provide extra opportunities to help students reach beyond higher levels. We fund as many qualifying grants as possible. Every year we get grant requests from the 9 schools in Shrewsbury for programs:
